Biography

A Franco-Algerian philosopher, scholar of Islam and writer, Razika Adnani works on Islam, Islamism, secularism, freedom of conscience and the place of reason in Muslim thought.

Thinking rather than submitting

A philosophy teacher before devoting herself to research and writing, Razika Adnani places critical thinking at the heart of her work. She studies how doctrines, interpretations and history have shaped contemporary Muslim thought. Her aim: to understand how ideas are constructed in order to be able to question them.

Reforming to break the deadlock

In her books and talks, Razika Adnani argues for a forward-looking reform of Muslim thought. She examines the weight of the past, literalism and the marginalisation of reason which, in her analysis, have encouraged the persistence of fundamentalist currents.

Knowledge as a weapon

To fight an ideology, condemning it is not enough. One must also understand its history, its texts, its mechanisms and its contradictions. Razika Adnani makes knowledge a tool of emancipation and resistance in the face of fundamentalist discourse.

A committed voice for freedom

Secularism, freedom of conscience, gender equality, democracy: her work goes far beyond the religious question. In 2025, Razika Adnani received the Prix Sciences et Laïcité from the Comité Laïcité République for Sortir de l’islamisme and for her body of research on Islam and Muslim thought. Today she continues her work through talks, publications, media and public debates.
