Biography

A scientist, researcher and writer, Jean-Claude Heudin has spent several decades exploring the frontiers of artificial intelligence and complexity science.

A pioneer of artificial intelligence

Holding a doctorate from Université Paris-Sud and an accreditation to supervise research (HDR), Jean-Claude Heudin has been working on artificial intelligence since the 1980s. He co-founded one of the first French companies specialising in the field, before developing applications for industry and defence.

In 1996, he joined the Pôle universitaire Léonard-de-Vinci, took part in the creation of the Institut de l’Internet et du Multimédia, ran its laboratory and then took over as head of the school.

Understanding rather than simply enduring

Generative AI, deep learning, robots, avatars, transhumanism: Jean-Claude Heudin is committed to distinguishing what technology actually makes possible from what we project onto it.

His approach combines science, history, philosophy and culture to make the most complex technological questions accessible. No doom-mongering. No blind fascination. Just the reference points needed to make decisions.

Thinking about AI differently

For Jean-Claude Heudin, artificial intelligence cannot be reduced to ChatGPT. Faced with the race towards ever-larger models, he questions their consumption of data, energy and resources, as well as the technological concentration they bring about.

He explores other paths: lighter, more specialised forms of intelligence, capable of collaborating with humans rather than seeking to replace them.

When artificial intelligence becomes creative

With ANGELIA, his algorithmic intelligence project applied to electronic music, Jean-Claude Heudin turns his research into a hands-on experience. The artificial intelligence interacts with the musician, improvises and takes part in the creative process in real time.

A living laboratory for asking an essential question: can a machine truly create? His work now takes him to the frontiers of generative music and quantum computing.

Artificial intelligence is no mystery: it is a mirror of our own humanity.

Jean-Claude Heudin gives you the keys to understanding artificial intelligence beyond the hype: what it can really do, its limits, its impacts and the breakthroughs that could still transform our relationship with machines.

01

Thinking AI Differently

There is more to artificial intelligence than ChatGPT.

The race for ever more powerful models gives the impression that only one trajectory is possible. Jean-Claude Heudin shows that other forms of artificial intelligence do exist.

He unpacks the limits of large models and explores approaches that are more specialised, more frugal and closer to human needs.

  • Understanding the limits of LLMs
  • Telling computing power apart from intelligence
  • Discovering the alternatives to giant models
  • Identifying the next AI breakthroughs
Ideal for Executive committee (CODIR), innovation, transformation, strategy, foresight
Format Talk or keynote · 45 to 75 min
02

After ChatGPT: How Far Will Artificial Intelligence Go?

From generative AI to superintelligence.

ChatGPT is only one step. Will systems be able to learn on their own, improve themselves or surpass certain human capabilities?

Jean-Claude Heudin separates scientific advances from speculative scenarios and gives the keys to understanding what could really happen.

  • Understanding AI’s possible trajectories
  • Decoding AGI and superintelligence
  • Questioning artificial consciousness
  • Separating science, foresight and fantasy
Ideal for Executives, executive committee (CODIR), innovation, foresight, technology events
Format Talk or keynote · 45 to 75 min
03

Can Artificial Intelligence Really Create?

When the machine becomes a partner to our imagination.

Text, images, music: machines now produce content that can genuinely surprise us. But do they really create?

Drawing on his ANGELIA project, Jean-Claude Heudin distinguishes generation, imitation and creativity, and shows how AI can become a creative partner rather than a substitute for humans.

  • Understanding algorithmic creativity
  • Exploring human-machine collaboration
  • Questioning copyright and originality
  • Putting people back at the heart of the creative process
Ideal for Innovation, communication, creative industries, culture, transformation
Format Talk, demonstration or talk followed by a debate · 45 to 90 min

AI: The Hidden Price of the Revolution

Behind the power of algorithms, very real resources.

Data centres, energy, water, semiconductors: AI is not immaterial.

Jean-Claude Heudin reveals the infrastructure that large models cannot do without and asks a central question: how far is this race for power sustainable?

  • Understanding AI’s real footprint
  • Identifying technological dependencies
  • Questioning the race for power
  • Imagining a more frugal, responsible AI
Ideal for CSR, innovation, industry, strategy, executive committees
Format Talk or keynote · 45 to 60 min

Human or Machine: Where Does the Boundary Still Lie?

Emotions, consciousness and intelligence in the face of machines.

An AI can recognise an emotion, write a poem or hold a conversation. But does it really feel anything?

Jean-Claude Heudin explores the boundaries between simulation and consciousness, artificial intelligence and human intelligence. A talk blending AI, neuroscience, philosophy and foresight to put people back at the heart of the debate.

  • Understanding what machines really simulate
  • Distinguishing intelligence from consciousness
  • Exploring the role of emotions
  • Reflecting on what makes us unique in the face of AI
Ideal for Conventions, executives, HR, innovation, public events
Format Talk or talk followed by a debate · 45 to 75 min
