Biography

A strategy professor and consultant, Franck Besombes decodes what really makes an organization work — or fail: its strategy, its culture, its people and its ability to turn decisions into action.

Understanding before transforming

A permanent faculty member at IAE Caen – Université de Caen Normandie, Franck Besombes teaches in programs including the Master’s in Management of Social Organizations (Master Management des organisations sociales). His approach never reduces management to a sequence of tools. An organization is a living system: decisions, culture, history, power dynamics, constraints and behaviors constantly shape one another.

From strategy to the front line

Alongside teaching, Franck Besombes advises executives through Copernic Conseils on strategy, change management, restructuring and organizational issues. His central subject: the gap between what the organization decides and what people on the ground can actually implement. He shows why a good strategy is not enough. Leaders must also bring people on board, understand resistance and turn intention into collective momentum.

Turning complexity into an advantage

The more uncertain the environment becomes, the greater the temptation to simplify. Franck Besombes proposes the opposite: learning to read complexity in order to decide better. He gives leaders frameworks to make trade-offs, rank priorities and hold a clear course when competing rationales clash.

Managing where constraints are tight

Franck Besombes has particular expertise in social, medico-social, public and non-profit organizations, where needs often grow faster than resources. In these environments, managing means choosing, prioritizing and preserving meaning while maintaining service quality and team engagement. This experience sheds light, far beyond these sectors, on every organization facing transformation.

In an uncertain world, performance belongs to those who know how to understand complexity.

Franck Besombes helps organisations look beyond organisation charts and strategic plans to understand what really makes a transformation succeed: the people, the constraints, the culture and the realities on the ground.

01

Strategy Put to the Test of Reality

Why a good idea is never enough to transform an organisation.

On paper, a strategy can look perfect. Then come the resistance, the constraints and the unexpected.

Franck Besombes shows how to bring vision and realities on the ground closer together in order to genuinely transform the organisation.

  • Moving from strategy to action
  • Identifying resistance
  • Aligning decisions with realities on the ground
  • Mobilising stakeholders

Uncertainty and Complexity

Turning instability into a driver of performance.

Uncertainty is no longer an anomaly. It has become the normal environment in which organisations operate.

Franck Besombes shows why trying to control everything can make an organisation more fragile — and how, instead, to learn to make decisions in complexity.

  • Reading a complex system
  • Moving beyond oversimplified answers
  • Developing strategic agility
  • Deciding with several variables at play
  • Turning uncertainty into adaptability
Ideal for Executives, managers, transformation, complex organisations

Managing When Resources Shrink and Needs Grow

Deciding, prioritising and preserving meaning under constraint.

  • Setting priorities in a high-pressure environment
  • Making trade-offs without losing meaning
  • Preserving team engagement
  • Clarifying what is truly essential
  • Reconciling constraints with quality of service

Managing in a Changing World

Moving from control to autonomy.

Employees want more autonomy, meaning and recognition, without the organisation giving up on structure or results.

Franck Besombes shows how the manager’s role needs to evolve: less control, more setting the rules of the game and creating the conditions for collective success.

  • Clarifying the manager’s role
  • Developing autonomy and accountability
  • Building a culture of trust
  • Giving meaning to action
  • Helping others succeed
Ideal for Managers, HR, management transformations, conventions

Transforming Without Dehumanising

Tools change. Organisations must change with them.

Franck Besombes shows why change fails when it ignores people’s jobs, behaviours, culture and human relationships.

  • Understanding resistance
  • Evolving working practices
  • Putting people back at the heart of change
Ideal for Digital transformation, HR, executives, public services, organisations in transition
